Oh Happy Bake is a German family bakery working out of a Nanaimo kitchen. Brigitte started baking to order in 2013 with the recipes she grew up with, and her daughter Helga now runs most of the day to day. Everything is still made from scratch, in small batches, to order.
They have been part of Nanaimo Christmas Village for more than five years, and they are a good part of the reason the hall smells the way it does in November. Expect Stollen, Lebkuchen, Linzer cookies and more across the weekend, with gluten-free and plant-based options sitting on the table alongside everything else rather than tucked away at the end.
Beyond the market, Oh Happy Bake bakes cakes and cookies to order and delivers across Nanaimo and Central Vancouver Island. If there is something you know you want, it is worth ordering ahead on their website rather than hoping it is still there on Saturday afternoon.
