Westcoastkitsch
West coast art in wood, paint and paper
Kent works out of a home studio in North Qualicum Beach. He cuts a shape out of reclaimed wood with a scroll saw, then paints the scene that shows through underneath. Vancouver Island itself, or a bear, a salmon, a whale, a raven.
The wood is always reclaimed, and he chooses it for what it carries as much as for how it looks. He describes the work as rescuing orphaned things, natural and manmade, which is a fair description of a coastline as well.
Alongside the cutouts he brings linocut cards and prints, art cards, stickers, and tote bags and t-shirts printed from his own blocks.
